This man’s Maori tattoo is unique, although it adheres to the traditional design used for Maori tattoos in the past and for modern Maori tats as well. The back tattoo includes three large circles running from the base of the wearer’s neck to the middle of his back. The first circle features a perfectly symmetrical design, while the other circles include the faces of the sun and moon.

Because Maori tattoos have a history rooted in traditional New Zealand culture, the tats were typically reserved for those indigenous to the area. Today however, Maori tattoos have become a popular tattoo design, and many men and women choose to get Maori tats inked on their bodies just for aesthetic purposes.
